Below are three main tips that should help to promote a healthy lifestyle during the day. Having a healthy lifestyle helps you to function properly throughout the day.

1.) Hydrate your body

It is important to drink water during the day. Your body cannot survive without water. Did you know that water makes up about 60% of the body? Different parts of the body are made up with different amounts of water for example, the brain, heart, skin, muscles and kidneys are all made up of some amount of water. According to a Journal of Biological Chemistry, the skin contains 64% water, muscles and kidneys 79%, lunges 83% and the brain, heart 73% water.

Water is very important for cell life, chemical processes in the body, transport of certain nutrients that come from the diet to different parts of the body for example vitamins, minerals and glucose. Water is also beneficial in helping to regulate the temperature of the body. Do you notice that when your body is hot, for example when you exercise, you begin to sweat? Water comes to the surface of the skin and evaporates which has a cooling effect on the body.

Remember that if you are thirsty, you are already dehydrated. Keep water by your side throughout the day.

2.) Snack

Did you know that snacking can be healthy? When you think of snacking, it is important that you think of fruits, vegetables or any item that is reduced in salt, fat and refined sugar. Healthy snacking is key in promoting a healthy lifestyle. Snacking also helps to increase metabolism and helps with weight control. When you snack in between meals, the aim is that portion control will be exercised during your main meals which includes breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Examples of healthy snacks include: whole wheat crackers, banana, tomato, yogurt, milk, watermelon, oats, peanuts, whole wheat bread, peanut butter, almonds, mango, carrots and pineapple.

3.) Exercise

Diet and exercise goes hand in hand. It is important to do extra activity during the day. This helps with mobility, reduce the risk for obesity, high blood pressure and many other diseases. Exercise also helps to reduce body fat, boost your mood, improve coordination, strengthen bones, and improve circulation. It is recommended that you should exercise for at least 20 minutes every day. Exercise will always be beneficial to our health and should ever be neglected.

Examples of exercise includes: walking, running, jumping, skipping, dancing, riding a bicycle, swimming, skating and many more. The activity should raise your heart rate, increase breathing, make you sweat and can range from easy, moderate to intense. Reducing sedentary lifestyle can be recommended. This is when you reduce the amount of time spent sitting since this can increase the risk for many dangerous diseases.
