Only once or twice in a generation are we blessed with a voice so powerful, so distinct, and so dynamic that it transcends musical styles and becomes timeless. Beth Hart is a prime example of such an artist. She is an amazingly talented singer and songwriter and has inspired millions across the globe. We had the wonderful privilege of interviewing the icon Beth Hart. Here is what she had to say:
How was recording Seesaw with Joe Bonamassa different from your other albums?
It’s so wonderful to work so quickly and so intensely with such a great artist as Joe.
“Sky Full of Clover” is an all-time favorite song of our staff, do you have a personal favorite song that you’ve written?
The same song! “Sky Full of Clover.”
Growing up, who were some of your greatest musical influences?
Etta James, James Brown, Aretha Franklin, Ricki Lee Jones, Tom Waits, Rush, Black Sabbath, Otis Redding, Billie Holiday, Big Joe Turner
How old were you when you knew you wanted to be a singer?
Probably seven
You’ve collaborated with some great artists, who is one artist you’d like to work with in the future?
Tom Waits, Emmylou Harris
What is your favorite part of the musical process?
Writing
How do you think the music industry has changed in the past 10 years?
In so many ways- but I love change. It keeps you outside the box.
What are your greatest challenges as a musician today and how do you overcome them?
Standing in my truth and not allowing anyone to dictate who I am or what I have to say because I want to get on with others always but not compromise the music.
