Top 10 freedoms we take for granted – Battlefords News-Optimist.

10. Freedom of religion and being able to go to the church of our choice, and to publicly acknowledge what faith you practise.

9. Freedom to work and to be anything we want to be. No child labour, no forcible sweat shops and no government farms for others to run.

8. Freedom to vote and make your voice be heard, as well as the freedom to speak of your choices in elected officials. No riots en route to voting stations and no threat to our lives as we head to the polls.

7. Being in the army is volunteer, not directed by conscription or law.

6. Never take for granted that you can walk down the street every day for an activity of your choice. Whatever freedoms you have, never forget how we got those freedoms in the first place.

5. Freedom of speech to say what is on our mind. We can write it, we can utter it or we can read it without persecution or threat of persecution.

4. Freedom to travel across provincial borders as many times as we like, as well as freedom, with a valid passport of course, to travel into another country. In fact Canadians are said to be the most trusted travellers abroad.

3. We are free to send our children to schools of our choice whether in grade school, high school or post-secondary school. Education is available to both genders and encouraged as a life choice to open doors for our children’s future.

2. Healthcare freedom. Not only is our healthcare free, we don’t have to have big bank accounts to obtain it and it is available in multiple clinics and health centres across our country, something those in third-world countries do not have the privilege of.

1. Democratic government. Whether you like or dislike them, they are not dictating our lives.
