And not one that fell under any of         the stereotypes but one you can inspire to be like.

Now, you race to the television set and tune into hit T.V series like The Walking Dead, Scandal and How to Get Away with Murder and see strong black women in leading roles of today’s hottest shows.

In celebration of Black History Month, here are six of the Hottest African American Female Characters on Television.

Crazy Eyes

6. Suzanne ‘Crazy Eyes’ Warren– Although, the Netflix hit series Orange is the New Black is packed with inmates we love, inmate known as Crazy Eyes (Uzo Aduba) stands out from them all. Besides her unforgettable appearance (big bulging eyes and bantu knots) she’s hilarious. And with a backstory like hers, fans love her even more. She may come on strong but her heart is always in the right place.

abbie5. Abbie Mills– Abbie isn’t like the other leading ladies in hit series. She doesn’t wear fashion tailored clothing, or leave her house red carpet ready. She makes the show real(even with all the supernatural things occurring) and that’s what audiences connect with. She’s reliable, strong and puts up one hell of a fight. Instead of chasing after a man, this lieutenant is running after demons. Fans love what she brings to Fox hit series Sleepy Hollow. A woman who isn’t defined by a man.

Empire-Cookie-Lyon4. Cookie–  Ever since the premiere of Fox new hit series ‘Empire’ the  fans have not stopped talking about the infamous character, Cookie Lyon (Taraji P. Henson) who wants to repair her relationships with her sons and reclaim her share of the label’s success. Whether it’s her  fierce wardrobe turning heads or her unapologetic dialogue dropping jaws, people love a woman who speaks her mind.

michonne3. Michonne–  AMC’s The Walking Dead fans can’t get enough of the sexy samurai, Michonne (Danai Gurira) whose proven that a sword can be sexier than a gun these days. She’s the woman who couldn’t trust people till she found the right ones. While some are hoping for an on-screen romance with fellow cast mate Andrew Lincoln who plays Rick, others love her kick-ass, stand alone attitude. Who doesn’t love a woman  who can pull her own weight during dangerous times?

Catch Michonne Sundays @ 9 on AMC.
