Abortion is not a crime, no, but you know what is? A life sentence of severe psychological torment by onset triggers bought on by an innocent child who was the product of rape or incest.
According to (Evaluation of social and demographic characteristics of incest cases in a university hospital in Turkey) case study by Ali Yildirim, Erdal Ozer et al; “Psychiatric problems were present in 72.1% of the victims. The most common psychiatric disorder was posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD). PTSD was detected in the 66.7% of the father-daughter incest victims.”
Most importantly, “We found unwanted pregnancies in 7% of the cases and pregnancy was the most serious medical problem in our study. Incest cases usually show up through unwanted pregnancies long after the beginning of abuse. This finding also leads to impairment in physical and mental health of incest victims”
Asking a victim to live with a product of their abuse is beyond unconstitutional but a complete violation of human rights. Both mother and child are held in captivity for a crime neither committed. Rather than affording the victims the opportunity to move on from their traumatic exposure, as it is written by law, to reach asylum away from their oppressor. Research by legal scholar Shauna Prewitt indicates that the resulting continued contact with the rapist is damaging for women who keep the child.
According the study, (Rape-related pregnancy: estimates and descriptive characteristics from a national sample of women.) By Holmes MM, et al. Am J Obstet Gynecol. 1996. The national rape-related pregnancy rate is 5.0% per rape among victims of reproductive age (aged 12 to 45); among adult women an estimated 32,101 pregnancies result from rape each year.
Every victim does not opt for an abortion and some do not seek immediate care due to fear, stigma and not being properly educated on sexual assault procedures.
The case study goes on to say, “among 34 cases of rape-related pregnancy, the majority occurred among adolescents and resulted from assault by a known, often related perpetrator. Only 11.7% of these victims received immediate medical attention after the assault, and 47.1% received no medical attention related to the rape. A total 32.4% of these victims did not discover they were pregnant until they had already entered the second trimester; 32.2% opted to keep the infant whereas 50% underwent abortion and 5.9% placed the infant for adoption; an additional 11.8% had spontaneous abortion..”
Ironically enough, “For the first time since 1975, the number of abortions in the United States dropped under one million (958,700 in 2013 and 926,200 in 2014), according to “Abortion Incidence and Service Availability in the United States, 2014,” by Rachel Jones and Jenna Jerman. The abortion rate also continued to decline, falling to 14.6 abortions per 1,000 women aged 15–44, the lowest rate ever recorded, and a 14% decline from 2011.” As reported by guttmatcher.org
It’s our voice, our choice. Women should have a right to choose, as we are the vehicle which carries the precious cargo and that includes all four wheels as well as the steering.
It is the mother who carries the baby, it is the mother who has to deliver the baby; therefore, it is the mother who chooses if that’s what she wishes to do, especially when it was forced upon her. Otherwise, it breaks every single violation of human rights.
It is a sad day in American history, when a woman is robbed of her right to say “no” and have that mean something.
The psychologically damaging message to young woman everywhere that, what a man does and says goes. You have no voice, no choice. Re-victimizing these women after trauma is a law made not for the people but against them.
This isn’t about religion nor God, and even if it was, demonic acts do not deserve reward. This shouldn’t be about taking the one life to replace another, it is still an abortion of one’s own civil rights.
Where are the laws to protect the victim? As this law is providing legacy to criminals, which could be no greater gift in regards to how their mind works.
Yes, the child is innocent but we must never forget the pregnancy itself is a byproduct of crime. The worst thing a child could feel is, unwanted. However, no child, not a single one deserves to be born a crime.
