It’s February and you’ve been at those New Year resolutions to eat better, work less and exercise more for a full month.  Tiring! Now is the perfect time to resolve to do something to make yourself feel amazing every day. Why not venture out of your sartorial comfort zone and resolve to up your fashion game this year? Read on for suggestions of 5 trends that are still going strong in 2015 and will give your closet the boost it’s looking for.

1. I will buy a pair of fashion sneakers

Yes ladies! The fashion sneaker is here to stay, much to the relief of our stiletto-punished feet, and there are some fantastic options to choose from. I’m not talking about your average gym trainer and no one will mistake you as coming from spin class. If you’re just starting out with this trend try a pair of New Balance 620 or 574 in a fun color or the classic Adidas Stan Smith that’s made a recent comeback and was seen on all the street style stars during Fashion Week last fall. Both J Crew and Urban Outfitters offer a great selection of New Balance and Adidas in addition to Nike, Vans and the always cool Converse. For those of you who are a bit more daring, Solange Knowles’ second collaboration with Puma- called ‘Wild Wonder’- is colorful and bold and sure to get you noticed. The collection (which only became available November 28th) is available at Opening Ceremony, both in stores and online.

2. I will give my skinny jeans a rest and try a pair of wide leg jeans

Wide leg jeans are certainly not new on the fashion scene but they are (once again!) having a moment. With all the 70’s inspired clothes on the Spring/Summer 2015 runways of designers like Gucci and Derek Lam, this is a style we’re going be seeing a lot of come Spring. To keep from looking like you’re headed to a 70’s themed costume party, resist pairing these jeans with peasant blouses or fringe. Try a lovely silk button down or toss on a T shirt and complete the look with a well cut blazer. For footwear, stick with something substantial like a chunky platform sandal or boot.

3. I will buy a statement coat

Statement outerwear is everything this season. Even better than a bold necklace or pair of beautiful shoes, a gorgeous coat can take an outfit from ho-hum to “Oh my gosh you look AMAZING!” status. I’m particularly enamored with the selection of faux fur coats being offered by Shrimps, a relatively newly launched label from London based designer Hannah Weiland. Known for their playful and colorful designs, these lovely coats have been spotted on fashionistas like Alexa Chung and Poppy Delevigne. For those wanting to give this trend a try without shelling out too much money, high street brand Zara offers a great selection of faux fur that look way more expensive than they are.

4. I will try a jumpsuit instead of separates

Sure you have to almost undress completely to use the restroom but the chic factor that comes with a well fitted jumpsuit makes the brief discomfort of a bare torso in a chilly restroom well worth it. Appropriate for the office when worn with a blazer and perfect for after work cocktails with a moto jacket or statement coat (see resolution #3) a jumpsuit is versatile and an easy one piece option when deciding what to wear. Barbaton, a brand offered by Aritzia, makes a super luxe jumpsuit called the ‘Donnie’ which I recently purchased while in New York. Aritizia has become a high street favorite among fashion girls and has grown to include more than 60 locations across North America since its launch in 1984. Unfortunately none of those locations are in the Los Angeles area but their wares can be found online (free shipping offered on orders over $50). Other stylish options can be found in stores and online at Barney’s New York by labels like Vince and Zero + Maria Cornejo (the ‘Frankie’ jumpsuit is to die for).

5. I will finally buy those leather pants I’ve been coveting

Leather as everyday wear came on the scene a couple of years ago and continues to grace the runways, as seen in the 2014-2015 Fall/Winter shows from St. Laurent, Gucci and Louis Vuitton. A pair of leather pants is definitely an investment piece that will last for seasons to come and instantly adds edge and that cool girl factor to any outfit. J Brand and Rag & Bone both make a variety of gorgeous styles. My personal favorite is the Leather Skinny Pant offered by Anine Bing. Bing’s fashion line was launched a mere 18 months ago and has quickly become a favorite of fashion bloggers like Julie Sarinana of ‘Sincerely Jules’ and celebrities like supermodel Rosie Huntington-Whitely. For the eco-conscious, try faux leather or coated jeans like those from Blank NYC or Free People, both available at Lord & Taylor.

There you have it- 5 fashion resolutions sure to make you feel as fabulous as you are. Resolve to try one (or all!) of these to break out of your fashion rut or to just inject some new color into your wardrobe for 2015. So go shopping- you deserve it!
