Certainly Her’s Featured Artist: Eric Hutchinson
Great music is universal, and everyone will enjoy the positive vibes and inspirational tones of Eric Hutchinson, Certainly Her’s featured artist for the month of November. We were able to sit down with the amazingly talented singer-songwriter for an interview, and this is what he had to say:
Who are your greatest musical influences?
It’s a really exciting time for pop music. Vampire Weekend is my favorite band of the last 10 years and I’m endlessly inspired by their music and how they make albums. I love Frank Ocean’s voice. I spent a month listening to his album and being jealous of the sound of his voice. I definitely had those people in mind when I was making “Pure Fiction”
I have such a cool job. I’ve been touring long enough that I know a little bit about a lot of places. I love pulling into town and knowing there’s a great movie theater down the street or where to get good sushi.
I just want to keep making music I believe in and that surprises me. There were some growing pains in making Pure Fiction. I had to learn to get out of my comfort zone and seeing how the music changed was one of the best things that ever happened to me as a musician.
Kanye! I love how he thinks about music and the records he makes. I saw him and Jay-Z perform at SXSW this year and got a bunch of ideas from that show that I borrowed and use in my show now.
Food! It’s pretty much all I think about! I’ve got a strong reputation among the band of knowing all the best places to eat. Stick with me and you’ll eat like a king.
Learn to play an instrument, start writing songs immediately and get off your computer and go out and perform your music live for someone. You learn everything about your song and your music when you play it live for somebody.
